Feed In Tariff
In most states of Australia, energy companies offer a feed in tariff for solar energy. For example Ergon in north QLD offer a net feed in tariff of 44cents per Kilowatt hour. This means for everything you feed into the grid you get 44 cents. When normal coal powered energy currently costs around 19 cents this means you get a great return on your investment. When you're considering installing solar power on your home or business it pays to take this into consideration. In some states this is lower such as NSW which offer a feed in tariff off 20 cents. See below for your state's feed in tariff.
Gross feed in VS Net feed in tariff
A net feed in tariff, also known as export metering, pays the PV system owner only for surplus energy they produce; whereas a gross feed in tariff pays for each kilowatt hour produced by a grid connected system. It's a very important difference.
